Burma's Current Situation
In Burma, approximately 2300 people are being held as prisoners of conscience; this meaning that they are being imprisoned because of their peaceful acts of expression of their beliefs. Most of these prisoners of conscience have used the right to freedom of speech by calmly expressing their opinions/disapprovals against the junta's policies. This has resulted with them recieving absurd convictions, such as 90 years of imprisonment. Their conditions behind bars are also awful; many don't get enough food or any medicine, and the prisoners often rely on their families for help. Recently, the Junta has created a strategic plan to allocate the prisoners further away from their families to obstruct any aid given by their families.
The prisoners who are later freed, are no longer allowed to run for election in Burma. The system is corrupt, causing political parties to be completely excluded from the media and also forbidding any opposers to express any criticism against the military.

Amnesty's Aim
We [Amnesty] want:
-the elections in Burma to be free and democratic.
-the Human Rights to be respected and followed.
-the prisoners of conscience to be released.
